Young Women, their mothers, and their leaders have all been encouraged to work together to accomplish the goals in the Young Women Personal Progress Program.

Before you begin, if you are a mother or a Young Women leader, go to this link. It will help you understand just what this program is all about. The requirements for adults are a bit different than for those of the girls.

I created this site to help me keep up with my twelve-year-old daughter as she is working toward receiving her Young Womanhood Recognition award.

Hope you'll come along and work with us as we build stronger foundations for our testimonies.

Faith #1/Virtue Value Project

I've decided that in order to make things easier, I'm going to start at the beginning and take Personal Progress a goal at a time as I work my way to the end, well, almost to the end.  One thing I'm incorporating here is the value project for Virtue (click the link and work your way down the page until you get to the project).

This project is rather lengthy, so I'm choosing to begin now to complete it.  It requires that you read the Book of Mormon from beginning to end.  You can do this at any pace you wish.  One thing that helps me with this is to go to http://readthescriptures.com.  On this site, you can highlight important passages and make comments as you go.  Each time I finish the Book of Mormon, I choose a different colored highlighter for the next time through.  You can also choose how long you want to take or how much of the Book of Mormon you want to cover each day.  It's a great site!

So, today, it's Faith #1. Here's what I'm going to need to do to accomplish this goal:

  • "The first principle of the gospel is faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Learn about faith from the scriptures and living prophets.

    1)  Read:

  • Read two general conference talks on faith:
  •    The Faith to Move Mountains by Gordon B. Hinckley
  •    Ask in Fath by David A. Bednar

  • Exercise your own faith by establishing a habit of prayer in your life.
    2)  Begin by regularly saying your morning and evening prayers.
    3)  After three weeks of following this pattern, discuss with a parent or leader what you have learned about faith and how daily personal prayer has strengthened your faith.
    4)  In your journal express your feelings about faith and prayer."

I have laid this out step-by-step, so I don't become overwhelmed by what's written here.  I like to take small bites as I approach Personal Progress.  This goal will take at least three weeks since it will take that long to do step 3.  I will probably analyze one scripture in step one a day and start step 2 today.  I might also begin step four and continue it throughout the three weeks.

The two general conference talks are ones that interested me.  Follow the link I have provided if you'd like to choose different ones that might be of better interest to you.

One thing that's important to remember...
Personal Progress is not a race.  It's an opportunity to build a strong foundation for your testimony, so take it slow and absorb as much knowledge as you can from each step.  Work to have these steps become life-long habits.

I'd love to hear how things go for you.  Please leave a comment and let me know how you're progressing.
